We love the winter Olympics around here. I even sprung for cable to watch them which before we hadn’t wanted/desired. Jonny and I got our tv in Mongolia for the last winter Olympics too. So many good Olympic memories….
Jonny’s been away for the last 2 weeks with CLIB doing outreach in BC/Vancouver area. It’s been a long 2 weeks here as a single mom and Amy misses her...
So, Amy had peed her pants so she was running around nakey and I was in the middle of changing Benjamin’s diaper. Amy spied his little blue sweat pants he had just been wearing and started putting them on. And she got them all the way up! And thought it was so funny that she was wearing Benjamin’s pants that she kept them on all evening - and laughed and laughed. We couldn’t...

Unbelievable!
Ben is a new little guy!!!! It WAS the laundry detergent. In the last two days he’s calm, he’s chilled out, his skin isn’t red, his cheeks aren’t bumpy, he lets others hold him, he sits and kicks around on the floor, in his chair, he doesn’t cry all the time and I’m not needing to walk him constantly.
He’s a new baby altogether.
Too bad we didn’t...
This is where we worked while in Mongolia - a good little video overview of the project.
At Long Last!
Here is a whole bunch of pictures and movies and snippets from life around here the last while.
Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy
Here is a quick movie of our house now. The upstairs is almost done - just need to tile the entry floor. We love it. and we’re super pumped to almost be done renovating.
For those of you who haven’t met Ben yet … and for grammas and gramps to enjoy … here he is.

I thought I’d just quickly post a couple pictures. Here we are! We’re all home and doing good. I feel much more relaxed with a newborn this time and he seems pretty chill. Amy is such a good big sister. She’s really accepted him and is engaging and loves to help and kiss and seems to know he’s part of us now.
More pics to come and I want to tell the story - it was...
Benjamin William Aicken
So, in light of the huge event of Baby Benjamin being born 2 days ago, I’d like to reopen the blog so I can post pics and tell the story.
More to come….

Home Again, Home Again
Can you say jet lag?!
Jonny and Amy are having a tea party. It’s a quater to 4 in the morning.
We’re home. Canada is awesome and we’re so glad to be here and out of airports and off of planes. As parents we noticed that we talk about the flight based on how Amy did. And she did great. As good or better than we could ever have hoped for. So, we had a good flight home....

Amy started counting last week. Now she counts everything…stairs, dice, things in books. We love to hear her little voice. She can also count to 10 in Mongolian… but I have yet to capture that on video.
Enjoy Gramma’s!
The Plan
Some people have been wondering about our scedule the next week and when we get home and stuff. Here’s the plan:
This friday (29th) morning we are leaving Erdent in a van with some friends and all going to Ub for a JCS dinner. There we will also hang with Rob and Pat who have been in the country for a week or so. So this means we have less tha 1 weeks to finish packing and cleaning and...

Left and Leaving
Ah, the Weakerthans, a great band by the way, inspired the title of this post. This is how we feel now. We’ve definately left some things - I’ve given away tons of clothes, kitchen stuff - we’ve already said for real farewells to some great friends, and we are leaving tons of stuff behind! And we’ve still in the process of leaving. Seeing friends and knowing you...

Amy had her first driving lesson a few weeks ago. Sam and Anne, good friends (and fellow Canadians) from UB came up and we went for a Sunday picnic on the Mongolian steppe. Amy is driving with no help. She steered us up a big hill. There really is nothing to hit out there.
Even I haven’t driven here yet.

Riddle me this....
I’ve been trying to think of an awesome riddle, like Avey’s, to add some fun and anticipation to some news we have…. but she did a great job and since I am that “sister in law” in her post the secret is out! Amy will be a big sister sometime in December!
We are very excited. I have been so sick. Not as sick as I was with Amy but enough to have our friend Patrick...

Amy helped make muffins today. She loves the stirring part. And the sneaking chocolate chips out of the bowl part. She’s so much like me!
So here she is helping out. She’s a bit weepy. 3 minutes after this video she was down for a much needed nap.
Enjoy!

Today Jonny and I went out for a walk with Amy. The weather has been summer beautiful the last few days. As we passed this guy on the side walk he did double-take and ran over to me and grabbed my arm (lightly, don’t worry.) He said (in English and loud) “HELLO!” And then (in Mongolian) “me little drunk.” No kidding, I thought. We’re getting a bit used to...

The Places We Live
nickbogardus:
If you haven’t seen The Places We Live site yet, you should absolutely give it a look. The project features panoramic pictures of slums and haunting stories told by the people who live there. It is an incredibly unique mix of photo journalism, social awareness, and technology.
Here are a couple of photographer Jonas Bendiksen’s pictures and a blurb about the project.

Amy has really started singing lately. When I took this video she had already been singing away for 15 minutes before i grabbed the camera. In this clip shes just singing nonsence but she especially likes to sing our names, “Mom! Dad! Amy!!” We love that the words that flow out in song are us. Very special.
