Home Again, Home Again
Can you say jet lag?!
Jonny and Amy are having a tea party. It’s a quater to 4 in the morning.
We’re home. Canada is awesome and we’re so glad to be here and out of airports and off of planes. As parents we noticed that we talk about the flight based on how Amy did. And she did great. As good or better than we could ever have hoped for. So, we had a good flight home. And now we’re here. It’s nice.
Leaving UB was strange and a bit surreal. We flew at 12:30 am, so we were already a bit weirded out by packing and saying goodbye all day and then, poof, on the plane and going. It seemed to happen very fast. The flight from there to Seoul was great. They had us in the front where people with kids go, and there was an extra seat so we were already stoked and then half way through they said we could move to a part with 4 open seats. Amy laid down to sleep and the flight went great.
Everyone had told us Seoul airport was amazing and they were right. We went right to the transit hotel and promptly fell asleep for a few hours. Then lunch at SubWay, more sleep in the hotel (Amy and I slept away 6 hours of our 14 hour layover. Awesome.) Supper at McDonalds and on the plane for the big stretch - 10 hours to Vancouver.
We had the front seats again, and lucked out again and had an open seat for Amy! Korean Air has great planes, there was room in front of our legs for Amy to play and eventually she slept down there for 3 or 4 hours. There were TVs for everyone and Amy watched cartoons and learned how to use headphone. The 10 hours went by as good as they could.
Then vancouver. We had 3 hours and that’s how long it took to get through the lines. They let all our huge luggages through no prob, but made us open the bags to get our a bag a horse jerky that a friend had given us as a gift. We were told by the strict Agriculture Inspection lady that is was NOT ALLOWED. It’s being incinerated as we speak. Who knew?!
We had to rush through and stand in a lot of slow lines, so we got to our gate just in time. Amy and I desperatly needed a snack - baby and pregnant mamma were hungry. But we didn’t have time and there was no place to buy anything. I had a granola bar and Amy suffered through not having any juice. The vending machine only sold Coke and water, neither which Amy was happy with.
A lot of grumpy commuters were on that plane, but luckily, Amy fell alseep on the runway (after a nice stewardess had filled her cup with apple juice) and she slept the whole way to Calgary. I had done so well all the way from Mongolia. I was worried I was would sick b/c I’m just 3 months and my stumach is happy if it’s full but can get pretty mad at me if it doesn’t get fed. So, taxiing down the runway in Calgary, I got sick all over, but am being quite aquainted with air sickness bags from travelling pregnant with Amy, it wasn’t a huge disaster. Welcome to Calgary. Yikes.
Corrine and Avey mey us, our bags all made it, and Amy LOVES, I mean LOVES Grandma’s house. She was crazy when we got here. Corrine had boughten a Cabbage Patch doll for her and it was sitting on the table. Amy saw it immediatly and when we said it was for her was super stoked and danced and clapped with joy the whole time it was coming out of the box. She got some wonderful toys, played in the grass (she was a little tentative of the grass at first) went to the park with grandma and auntie, is wearing new pjs and is happy. And up at 4 am.
We had BBQ chicken and shrimp and grain bread and spinich salad with strawberries, bluewberries and blackberries for supper.
It’s good to be home.
Calgary smells really good at 4 am.
:)
